Olivia left the town on her bike just after sunrise. She has promised her younger brother fresh strawberries from the farm outside the hills. Halfway there, a red barrier closed the familiar bridge. A wooden board showed the word DETOUR in bright paint. Olivia sighed, turned off the main road, and followed a narrow lane she had never explored. Blackberry bushes scratched her jeans, and loose gravel snapped under the tires. She has ridden many country paths before, yet this stretch, which curved between oak trees, felt different. Morning light touched a wide meadow beyond the trees. Golden grass waved like listeners at a silent concert.

Grass parted, revealing a flock of sheep and a single white feather floating above them. A breeze lifted the feather, carried it toward a low fence, and it rested on Olivia’s handlebar. While she studied it, distant music drifted from a wooden barn at the meadow’s edge. She leaned forward on the handlebars and rolled the bike closer to the barn. Inside, a group of senior dancers practiced slow, graceful steps under pale lamps. No audience waited; only their soft shoes tapped on the floorboards. One dancer noticed the feather, laughed, and clipped it to a straw hat resting on a bench. Olivia waved goodbye and pushed her bike further along the lane. The hidden track joined the main road again, and her wheels spun fast toward the farmhouse gate.
