Reading modes and interaction patterns available in LexiTale stories
The following describes the reading modes and interaction patterns available across LexiTale stories. Each mode is an independent interface — none is a required step, and none belongs to a teaching sequence.
Bilingual graded stories
Each story page presents the L2 original and the L1 translation together, stacked. Every story carries a stable canonical URL; content does not change after publication. CEFR A1–C1 grading is a metadata attribute and does not affect resource stability.

Each story page exposes a toggle next to the L2 and L1 sections. When enabled, the section interleaves the other language's paragraphs in alternating order — original / translation / original / translation. The two toggles are independent; either can be active alone, or both at once.

When a story includes native-audio narration, it carries Whisper word-level timing data. During playback, the currently-uttered position highlights in the text in real time. The highlight granularity is per-segment (phrase/sentence), not whole-paragraph.

Marked vocabulary words within a story are tappable. Activation scrolls to the corresponding card, which contains the definition, IPA, example sentences, and native audio. Word marks live inside story paragraphs; there is no separate extracted word list.

Vocabulary cards present an IPA transcription alongside an L2 native audio file. IPA strings are rendered client-side; the SSR HTML does not contain IPA characters (avoids search engines parsing /brʌʃ/-style notation as URL paths). Native audio supports multiple L2 languages.

Spark accepts a 5-word input and outputs a CEFR-aligned bilingual story node embedding those words in context. The output is an independent tale resource carrying the same stable canonical URL as any other tale — citable, deep-linkable, and cross-referenceable.

The interface ships in Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean, each on its own route. Interface language and story content language are resolved independently; any combination is a valid path. hreflang relations are established across all locales.
