Quail on the Market Lane-

English Original
Milo has visited the weekend street market every spring, and today he hurries down the stone lane. His goal is clear: reach the last stall before the merchant packs away a tiny glass trinket shaped like a boat for his brother’s birthday. However, the lane is already crowded. A slow tourist group blocks one side, and baskets stand in puddles from an earlier shower. Milo shifts left and right, yet the line of bodies is thick. While he waits, a gentle breeze swings the strap of his canvas bag, and a small mirror, which he has carried to check the trinket’s shine, knocks against his hip.
Suddenly a wicker crate up ahead tips over. A dozen quail burst out, and the narrow lane seems to fill with flapping wings and startled cries. People bend or raise arms to protect hats, leaving gaps where feet had stood. Milo spots an opening, lowers his shoulders, and slips through the feather cloud. He has practiced quick sidesteps on the football field, so the movement feels natural. Within seconds he reaches the stall that is being covered by a canvas sheet. The merchant, surprised but smiling, lifts the cloth again and passes the tiny boat into Milo’s open hands. The mirror inside his bag catches late sunlight as he turns, and bright dots dance across the quieting lane.
Translation
