Leo Before First Bell-

Story Content
English Original
Leo had planned the surprise since last week. He wanted to place a woven bracelet on Maya’s desk before the first bell rang. The hallway, however, was filled with music stands, backpacks, and students who carried large cases for morning practice. Their chatter mixed with an early brass rehearsal, creating a lively symphony that bounced off the lockers. As Leo squeezed past a trumpet player, his earbuds slipped, and the cord formed a tight tangle around the small gift. Seconds ticked away while he struggled to free the colored threads. A beam from the skylight caught the beads, throwing an unusual highlight onto the floor tiles.
The knot finally loosened, yet the hallway crowd still crawled forward. Instead of waiting, Leo ducked into the empty art corridor that connected to the classroom from the other side. Paintings that students had finished last term lined the quiet walls, and his steps landed faster on the polished surface. He entered the room just as the clock hand touched eight. Maya’s seat sat empty. He laid the bracelet across the center of her notebook, where sunlight now rested. At that exact moment, Maya entered through the main door, earlier than usual because band rehearsal had moved. She spotted the shining circle, raised her eyebrows, and turned toward Leo. Chairs scraped as more students arrived, but the bracelet stayed still between them, catching the light.
Translation
