The first obstacle appeared when the plug slid in; a faint buzz sounded, then darkness swallowed the room again. The filament inside the projector bulb glowed for one brave second before fading. Milo wiped his palms on his sweatshirt, then carefully unscrewed the fragile bulb. The glass surface felt cooler than expected, as though heat never reached it.
