Leo carries a small cloth bag after school. He plans to feed ducks near the park pond. Warm sun touches the quiet water. Dense vegetation borders the narrow path. The air holds a sweet flower smell. He shakes the bag and checks the ample supply. A colorful butterfly lands on the bag for a second. Leo grins and continues toward the wooden pier.

Sudden rustling shakes branches above the pier. A bright parakeet darts from the leaves and bumps Leo's elbow. The seed bag drops and scatters across the wooden boards. Several seeds roll off the edge into the water. Small fish splash and push ripples against the pier posts. A duck startles and flaps hard. Its wing knocks an empty cup from the railing. The cup strikes the surface and floats away like a tiny boat. Leo kneels and scoops the remaining seed. He sets a gentle trail along the planks. The parakeet hops closer and pecks once. Then it glides toward a thick branch offering safe habitat. Ducks gather beside the pier and nibble the rest. Water settles, reflections steady under afternoon light. Leo ties the lighter bag and pockets a smooth pebble.
