Priya stands on the riverside path with a thin sketchbook and a small enamel paint tin. She has already drawn the outlines for her class mural, but the colours of the old bridge still need study. The bridge, which was built a century ago, glows faintly in late afternoon light. A grey veil of pollution drifts from the busy road behind her, and the sun sinks lower each minute. Clouds steal brightness from the stones, so every shade looks dull. To keep working, Priya decides to explore the narrow bank below the arch, where reflected water may brighten the scene.

Wet pebbles press under her shoes as she steps closer to the water. Among leaves she notices a curved shard that catches light; it is part of a plate whose enamel surface still shines turquoise. An idea begins to make sense. She tilts the shard so the turquoise glow bounces onto the bridge wall. The sudden colour reveals hidden reds in the bricks. Excited, she fills in the missing tones on her sketch before the last light fades. Raindrops tap the river, but her page now shows every needed shade. She slides the bright shard into her pocket, its surface already dry.
