English Original
Maya stood beside the badminton court just after lunch, balancing a rolled banner under one arm. She had painted long stripes in the morning, and the cloth still smelled faintly of fresh dye. The net had been lowered by earlier players, leaving plenty of open space above it. Maya’s shoulders looked relaxed, yet a spark of playfulness danced in the quick rhythm of her steps. She planned to hang the banner before her friends arrived for the afternoon match. The afternoon sun warmed the green seats, promising long shadows later on the court. If she had remembered the tape, the work would have finished in minutes. Instead, she spread her tools on the bench: a pair of scissors, a spare racket, and a bundle of thin rope. A sudden breeze tugged the banner across the dusty service line, forcing Maya to chase it twice before she could begin.
First, Maya tied a loose rope end to the banner and tossed the other over the net post. The throw landed short, so the cloth drooped and brushed the surface. She raised the rope with a racket, but the frame slipped and the line fell back immediately. Undeterred, she folded the banner, gripped it with the racket strings, and poked upward again. This time the cloth cleared the post, but the knot loosened and fluttered free. She really wished she had taken a moment to check the knot earlier. A sudden second gust caught the half-secured banner, spinning it like a kite. Maya sprang sideways, caught the rope, and looped it twice around the post before the wind settled. When she finally stepped back, the banner hung straight, and players laughed as the paint strokes formed a smiling face. Late sunlight rested on the smiling cloth, casting stripes across the court.
Translation
