Sam carried his sketchbook into the wide meadow.

He wanted to draw a gentle deer beside soft grass.

A curious parrot perched on a low branch above him.

Bright feathers caught sunlight; wings began to flutter suddenly.

The quick sound startled the deer hiding near yellow flowers.

It jumped forward and knocked Sam’s small paint cup over.

Water rolled across the page and mixed every bright color.

Lines disappeared; strange swirls spread like tiny rivers on paper.

Sam paused, then turned the page sideways with calm hands.

He started a new picture using the accidental shapes.

Soon the curious parrot filled the page with sweeping greens.

Colors from the meadow blended and formed its bright tail.

The deer stepped back, now safe beside a tall bush.

Sam placed the drying picture on a flat stone.

Sunlight warmed the wet page until the colors stayed.

Light wind brushed the grass around his ankles.

He closed the sketchbook and stood to leave.
