Maya walked through the autumn market beside her aunt. The aunt worked as a nurse in the nearby clinic. Maya carried a small basket for red and yellow leaves. She planned to gather the brightest leaves for school art. A friendly farmer stacked pumpkins at the next wooden table. Sunlight warmed the outdoor stalls and made colors sparkle.

A curious goat slipped from the farmer and bumped Maya's elbow. The basket flipped; leaves fluttered onto the pumpkin pyramid. Pumpkins rolled down, hit a sack, and split dry corn. Corn kernels bounced across the dusty ground, tiny golden wonders everywhere. Maya knelt quickly, used a broad leaf, and swept kernels. Mixing corn with leaves formed golden speckles between bright reds. The farmer steadied the pumpkins and gathered the loose corn. Maya lifted the sparkling basket and walked toward the school gate.
