An exhilarated shout escaped Jonas before he could stop it, and the fox jolted, dropped its prize, and vanished between saplings. For a moment loose berries rolled across the grass, shining like beads. Jonas laughed, collected what he could, and looked around; bushes remained heavy, their supply seemingly untouched by the brief visitor. He settled the basket beside a stump and began filling it until purple juice stained his fingertips. When the rim finally crowned with color, he set the lid in place and straightened. Sunlight rested on the still water.
