Roots lay half exposed because workers failed to uproot an old bench yesterday. Marco lunged, but his shoes slipped on the wet surface, and he landed on one knee. He changed his plan in the next breath. Instead of chasing the papers across the endless square, he slid the remaining pages inside his jacket.
