English Original
Maple Street ended at a padlocked gate, yet a gap between its iron bars left just enough room for Mina to squeeze through. Vines curled over cracked paving stones, and plentiful wisteria hung in violet ropes that brushed her shoulders while she crossed the forgotten garden. A wooden greenhouse waited ahead; one pane rattled each time the wind climbed over the roof. Mina pressed on the swollen door. It refused, groaning against her palm. She shifted her weight, pushed again, and the latch slipped; the door swung inward with a dull clap that sent dry leaves skittering across the tiles.
Dust drifted through angled light, and a loose shelf tilted under a row of cloudy jars. Mina set her sketchbook on a bench, nudged a jar upright, then paused. A green grasshopper sprang from beneath the glass rim, landing on her sleeve before vaulting toward a beam. The sudden motion rocked another jar. Its lid clattered to the floor, and thin chrysalises lining the interior glass stirred. One casing split while warm air slipped inside, revealing a damp wing. The slow metamorphosis gathered pace: more casings cracked, soft wings fanned open, and a swirl of pale butterflies rose. Their combined wing beats built a gentle crescendo that filled the narrow space until the air glittered with powder and light. The swarm drifted toward the broken pane, brushing loose petals from the wisteria as it passed. Dust settled again, wings cleared the roof, and the glass panels rested against the warped frame.
Translation
