When Moonlight Met the Wandering Balloon-

Clara stepped into the old botanical courtyard just after sunset, her sketchbook tucked under one arm. A glass roof arched overhead, its iron lattice catching the first lunar glow and scattering angled stripes across the tiles. She aimed to record those shifting bands before the night grew too deep. A small camping lantern rested beside her stool, its steady beam cutting through pockets of pale mist. From a distant corner a haunting clang rose each time wind teased a loose gutter, adding a low metallic pulse to the scene.
She opened the sketchbook, but the page lifted and slapped back with every burst of air. The oscillation of paper turned her pencil strokes ragged. When she reached forward to pin the edge, the stool tilted; one leg had lodged between cracked tiles. Clara steadied the seat, yet the movement sent the lantern wobbling. It rolled an inch, bumped a clay pot, and stopped only after spilling a ribbon of light across a bed of prolific ivy climbing the rear wall.
Moonlight thickened, brightening the courtyard until shadows resembled dark water. Clara raised her eyes and froze: a silver sphere drifted below the roofline, sliding between lattice bars like a ghostly fish through netting. For an instant she mistook it for an enormous moth, but its smooth surface reflected both lantern and moon in sharp flashes. A birthday balloon, long escaped, had worked loose from some high nook. Another gust nudged it lower; the tether brushed her shoulder and startled her hands wide. The sphere swiped the lantern, toppled it, and the bulb broke with a soft pop, leaving only lunar sheen to outline the courtyard.
Without the artificial glare, the stripes of roof shadow sharpened. The fallen lantern now lay on its side, lightless yet intact enough to prop the sketchbook page. Clara angled the book against it; the page stayed flat at last. Overhead, the balloon drifted upward again, lodged once more among beams, and stilled as the wind settled. Beneath that quiet ceiling of glass and iron, charcoal lines gathered on paper while moonlight rested across the quiet courtyard.
Translation
