English Original

Morning sunlight scattered across the courtyard, and warm air carried faint salt. A long banquet had filled the yard since dawn. It formed part of a yearly tradition run by the student cooking club. Several dishes were placed on folding tables, and the last guests now drifted away. Near the kitchen door waited a striped cat that often followed Naomi during chores. The club has promoted sustainability all week, so every scrap needed to reach the compost bins. Naomi gripped a wooden crate packed with seafood shells, melon rinds, and a plate of soft octopus rings. She aimed for the bins behind the hedge before the drizzle grew stronger.

Rain began in light bursts, and slick tiles increased the weight on her arms. Halfway across the courtyard, one shoe slipped, the crate tilted, and the lid bounced free. Orange peels skittered, and the octopus rings slid like tiny wheels toward a puddle. The cat jumped back, fur puffing, then crouched to watch the rolling food. Naomi steadied herself, but lifting again felt risky on the wet surface. She spotted an empty handcart that had been forgotten beside stacked chairs. Instead of carrying, she pushed the handcart near the scattered scraps. Then she shoveled them back inside with a tray. The crate settled on the metal frame, and the wheels gripped the path. The cart rolled smoothly through the open gate.
