English Original
A steady hiss rose from the garden sprinkler head. Water swept across the rough grass in shining arcs. Delia stopped by the gate, watching. A red paper plane lay on the fence. A quick squall flipped it there earlier. She wanted it before water soaked it. First, she studied the sprinkler rhythm. The head whirled five seconds, paused three, then returned. She counted two full cycles carefully. Cool morning light softly filled the small yard.
When the spray turned away, Delia dashed forward. She grabbed the plane and spun around. Her heel pressed the hose, giving the nozzle a twist. The next burst angled high and struck the open shed. Metal tools clinked; the old inventor kept them there. She tried to think, yet water already splashed everywhere. Delia tucked the plane and hurried out. Behind her, the sprinkler kept hissing, the shed dripping. Small puddles gathered below the bench. Water tapped the roof as Delia closed the garden gate.
Translation
