English Original
Three grey push pins had been pressed into the corridor carpet, forming a neat diagonal line that Finn noticed when his shoe brushed the first one. The metal heads felt cool against his fingertips as he lifted them, and he paused, puzzled by the tidy path. A faint chemical whiff of dry-marker ink drifted from the meeting room, mixing with the low hum of a running projector. On the break-room counter a crumb trail circled an empty biscuit plate; someone had gorged long before the dishwasher cycle finished. Finn wiped the gritty crumbs from his palm and entered the room. The laminate oval table felt cold under his forearms, and the projector already glowed, but its power cord lay stretched tight across the floor in an awkward arc.
He had promised to start the presentation, yet the cable stopped forty centimetres short of the only free outlet. First, he uncoiled a narrow extension lead resting beside the multifunction printer; the glossy sheath slid across the tiles and gained twenty centimetres, still short. Next, he lifted a thicker cord hanging from the stainless towel rack near the sink; added length brought the gap down to a handspan. Warm air from the projector fan brushed his knuckles, but the plug could not reach. Finn crouched and scanned the skirting board. Under the whiteboard ledge he spotted a third stubby adaptor, likely forgotten after some clumsy mistake during last week’s workshop. He pressed the three cords together; the plastic collars slid over the pins with a muted scrape, and the projector lamp shifted from red to steady green. The push-pin pattern now lined the complete cable run, revealing itself as a quiet warning rather than random litter—a different outcome than he had assumed. Finn was reaching across the table, guiding the warm HDMI plug toward his laptop.
