English Original
A smooth driftwood stick, a shallow plastic pail, and a folded blue towel slipped from Nina’s elbow onto the reflective wet sand. Behind her, Mom read on a striped blanket while vernal sunlight slid across the writing zone, warming the surface enough to lift a faint silver mist. Nina gripped the stick and drew a tall tulip, its stem a single groove that filled with a whisper of water before the shine vanished again. Kane watched, then traced the outline of a waterfall beside the flower, lifting and dropping the stick like splashing spray. They planned a spring garden before the tide returned, yet the warmth turned the damp grooves pale within minutes. A brief dispute flared when the pale patches blurred Kane’s waterfall; Nina pointed at the sun, Kane tapped the fading stem. Without words they divided tasks: he hurried to the sea, dipped the pail, and jogged back, thin rivulets dripping from the rim.
Kane tipped the pail, and a narrow waterfall rushed over the warm sand, darkening every line; cool water met heated grains, and a soft hiss slipped out as vapor winked away. The water followed the grooves outward, forming a shining network that linked tulip and waterfall like branches of quicksilver. Gravity carried the stream farther than planned, across the shallow runnel, where the next small wave pulled it seaward and erased half the lower petals. Nina bent, pressed the stick sideways, and raised a ridge of wet sand below the picture. The improvised wall slowed the next surge; foam curled against the barrier then slipped back, leaving the upper shapes clear. Their garden now sat higher, darker, and slightly uneven, but the oncoming tide paused at the new border. Upshore, a gull landed beside Mom’s blanket, lifted a strand of seaweed in its beak, and hopped toward the glittering waterline.
Translation
