What hides under that shelf?
Tobin kneels on the mat.
The mat feels warm.
He drops his head and peers through the gap.
Dust rests behind the wood.
So still.
A small hobby horse leans inside.
A wooden lever points sideways.
The space stays dim.
No sound.
Tobin shifts left for light.
A distant low note hums.
Soft dust drifts in the beam.
Tobin stands and steps to the window.
He presses his nose near glass.
Outside, sunrays write bright lines.
An ant walks on the sill.
It stops by a yellow block.
Fenna looks and says, "I see it."
The tiny ant crawls.
