A damp earth smell drifts round the bench. Seren sits still on the peeling plank. A small mirror rests on her lap. A brown nut balances in the middle. A dew drop taps her wrist. She stays still. Soft pollen dust turns and settles on her cheek. A dry leaf brushes her hair. An ant walks across her shoe.

A quick breeze lifts one mirror edge. The nut starts to roll. Seren tilts her leg slightly. The nut stops near her knee. Owen calls from the back step. He says, “Dinner is ready.” His paper page flaps. Bright light slides over the mirror. The nut gleams.
