Curiosity kept Lily’s hands moving. She tilted the ink jar next. Heavy ink swirled and pressed against the glass neck, but refused to pour. She shook it once; ink seeped through a tiny crack and traced a thin boundary across the wood. Cooler air pooled near the floor, and the liquid slowed, clinging in a shiny thread.
