Sliding Shells at the Tide Pool -

Story Content
English Original
'What made these tiny tracks?' Xyla pointed at the damp sand.
Two thin lines crossed a wavy strip of shells.
It was morning by the quiet pier.
Pale light fell across the wet rocks.
Xyla and Warren walked beside the small tide pool.
A blue bucket rested near a coil of rope.
A sparrow hopped on the railing and tilted its head.
Ice in their bottle began to melt in the light.
Warren lifted the bucket to look inside.
Its handle caught a loop in the rope.
The loop tugged the wavy shells into the pool.
Shells slid and clinked, and water splashed over their shoes.
A small crab shot from under a shell and stopped.
A flat driftwood piece blocked a thin trickle to sea.
The pool went quiet, and the crab tapped the edge.
Warren found a smooth stick near the rocks.
He slid it under the driftwood and pushed down.
Xyla held the rope so the shells stayed put.
Water moved through the gap and carried sand aside.
Tiny bubbles moved along the bottom and popped in rows.
The crab slipped sideways and skittered through the stream.
Sand darkened along a thin path past their toes.
Translation
Warren
Warren
Xyla
