The sun is warm. An otter slides into water. Ripples circle its smooth head. It swims toward the wide bend. Two hikers hike along the bank. Leaves float and change color above. A line of cans drifts across. Small insects dance above the surface. Light flickers on wet rocks. A distant bird calls once. Thin reeds sway beside stones.

The cans block the narrow gap. The otter bumps the first can. Metal clinks but stays tight. Suddenly, a large fish leaps. Its tail slaps the floating line. The cans break and spread apart. Water opens a clear lane. The otter glides through at once. Splashing fades behind its trail. Air sits quiet above branches. A small wave laps gently. The river stays still.
