Leon carried a small lunch into the city park. His stomach growled after morning class at the library. Soft afternoon light rested on the quiet pond. He sat on a bench and opened his sandwich. A street singer started a bright tune near the fountain. The lively song lifted his smile while he unwrapped lunch.

Leon tapped his foot with the rhythm of the tune. The movement shook his lunch box and loosened the lid. Several crumbs tumbled out and rolled across the path. Dozens of grey pigeons noticed the crumbs and rushed forward. Their wings flapped loudly and pushed the lunch box onto grass. Bread slices scattered, leaving Leon with almost nothing to bite. He laughed and broke the last slice into tiny pieces. Then he chose to share the pieces with the birds. The singer paused, walked over, and offered a fresh sandwich. Leon accepted, thanked the singer, and finally enjoyed his meal. He lifted the fresh sandwich softly.
