Lara balanced her sketchbook against one hip and followed the lane toward the footbridge beyond the barns. A wildflower patch framed the gravel; bright petals brushed her boots with every step. The milkman rolled past on a tricycle cart, bottles clinking; for three beats the turning spokes seemed to synchronize with her stride before the cart curved toward town. Morning light flashed on the metal caps and then slipped away as the cart vanished behind haystacks. Lara crossed a gate where wheel ruts held last night’s rain and reached the bridge rails still damp from mist.

A narrow rivulet whispered below, no wider than her wrist yet bright against dark stones. She knelt, opened the sketchbook, and outlined the first beam. A sudden gust flipped the page; graphite streaked across the sky she had just drawn. Her eyebrows knit; fingers pinned the corner until the wind eased. She rubbed the smudge with her thumb—storm clouds now hovered in the picture. When quiet returned, she tried again, head bent so the brim of her cap guarded the paper.

Footsteps broke the stillness. A forester stepped from the pines, shoulders dusted with sawdust. He lifted a hand in silent greeting and paused, studying the bridge. A loose twig slipped from the bundle strapped to his back, wedged between slats, and halted his progress. Lara nudged it free with her boot. Boards creaked; ripples widened below as the man crossed and disappeared along a path stitched with fern shadows. Water and birdsong filled the space he left behind.

Lara leaned over the rail to capture the widening circles. From under the planks, something pale drifted into view—a palm-sized boat carved from bark, its tiny sail cut from foil once wrapped around a milk cap. The craft spun, bumped a root, and lodged against moss. Lara stretched; her fingers missed. She shifted weight, the sketchbook slipped, pencils scattered, and one rolled toward the water. She steadied herself, hooked the boat with a twig, and set it on the bridge rail. She gathered the pencils, opened a fresh page, and began outlining hull and sail.

拉拉俯身想捕捉漣漪形狀。此刻，一物自橋底漂出——一艘掌心大小的樹皮小船，船帆是剪成三角的牛奶蓋鋁箔。它旋轉，撞上樹根，卡在青苔旁。拉拉伸手未及，又調整重心；畫冊滑落，鉛筆滾散，一枝差點掉入水中。她穩住身子，用細枝勾起小船，放在橋欄上。拾回鉛筆，翻開新頁，開始勾勒船身與帆。

微光在船旁起伏，小船靜靜停靠。
