Warm light fell across the long hallway.

Milo walked beside his mother toward her quiet office door. He carried a bright drawing and wished to explore her workplace. A tall guardian read a magazine near the shiny elevator. The man nodded; no words left his mouth.

Inside the office, mother speaks with a laptop open on the desk. Milo stepped closer, but the smooth handle slipped through his small fingers. The drawing fell, slid under a metal cabinet, and disappeared. When he pulled the drawer, a stack of files tipped forward. Folders hit a pencil cup; bright pens rattled across the floor. One pen rolled under a chair and bumped the guardian's shoe. The guardian looked down, then lifted the chair slightly without a word. Milo knelt, used a long ruler, and hooked the drawing out. Papers settled, pens stopped moving, and quiet returned to the room. Mother closes the laptop, lifts the drawing, and sets it upright.

在辦公室裡，母親正對著桌上的筆電說話。米洛靠得更近，但光滑的門把從他小手中滑走。畫掉下來，滑到金屬櫃下，消失不見。他拉開抽屜，一疊文件向前傾倒。資料夾撞到筆筒，亮色的筆在地板上嘎嘎作響。一支筆滾到椅子下，碰到警衛的鞋。警衛低頭，輕輕抬起椅子，仍然沉默。米洛跪下，用一把長尺勾出那張畫。紙張安靜地落下，筆停止移動，房間再次安靜。母親闔上筆電，舉起畫，將它豎直放好。
