Milo lifted a metal watering can toward the tall plant.

He stood on a short wooden box beside the shelf.

Soft morning light filled the small room.

The box rocked under his boots.

Water splashed out and ran along the smooth shelf.

The stream reached three bright marbles near a plastic deer.

Each marble rolled forward and struck the deer's thin legs.

The small figure tipped and hit a stack of books.

The book pile leaned against a tower of wooden blocks.

Blocks tumbled in a neat row across the floor.

The fallen blocks slid toward a round jar of buttons.

The jar began to shake on its narrow foundation.

Milo saw the movement and jumped from the box.

He placed both hands around the glass before it tipped.

Space inside the jar showed quiet generosity, leaving buttons room to rattle.

Bright and dark buttons formed a simple relationship of colors.

Buttons rattled loudly but stayed inside.

Water still dripped, yet the chain finally broke there.

Milo breathed out and noticed the wide dark streak on the shelf.

He carried a cloth and wiped every drop he could find.

Near his boots, one loose marble rolled in a slow circle.
