Mika balanced a metal tripod at the edge of the old garden behind the mill. She had planned to capture the hidden pool under the nearby waterfall before evening shadows covered it. Leandro tugged a battered backpack onto the grass, its side pocket holding stale bread as bait. An overturned watering can rolled near their boots, still dripping from earlier chores. Beyond the fence, spray rose in thin scarves, mixing damp earth with peppery moss. A distant canine bark cut through the sound of rushing water, then faded. The friends checked the camera focus twice, shoulders brushing while they measured the fragile light.

They pushed through ferns toward the falls, but the first challenge came quickly. A root caught the tripod leg, twisting the hinge; the lens cap plunged into a shallow pool. Mika knelt, hands trembling, yet the cap kept sliding between stones slick with algae. When she finally trapped it, new trouble appeared: mist clouded the glass faster than she could wipe it.
