When Water Tipped the Flamingo-

English Original
Mira twisted the greenhouse tap, aiming to rinse a row of muddy seed trays. The handle groaned, then water burst from the spout in a slanted arc. Drops drummed on the metal basins, forming a quick, uneven melody that echoed against clouded glass. Patience drifted through the warm, still air; even the shadow of a nearby willow looked unhurried. Mira nudged the hose to straighten the spray, yet the rubber line kinked behind a crate and refused to lie steady.
She leaned over to free the bend. The crate shifted, pushing her elbow, and the hose sprang loose. A bright jet lashed across the potting bench, spilled over the edge, and splashed onto the concrete floor. The water hurried toward the open doorway, swept past Mira’s shoes, and slipped outside as a narrow, twisting stream. Beyond the threshold, the ground dipped toward an old birdbath where a plastic flamingo stood on one thin leg, its faded beak pointing at the sky.
The sudden stream met dry leaves gathered along the step, tugged them forward, and carried them like tiny rafts. Leaves jammed against the birdbath pedestal, forcing water to rise and lap over the rim. The first hop of the cascade finished when that rim overflowed; the second began as the new spill poured onto a stack of empty clay pots. One pot rocked, tapped another, and the pair toppled together. Their rolling rims nudged the flamingo’s base. With a soft scrape, the bird listed, tipped, and slid beak-first into the shallow bath. Ripples fanned out, slapped against stone, then spilled again, widening the stream across the weedy path.
Mira hurried back to the tap and wrestled the handle downward. The jet thinned but did not stop; the hose end still jerked in loose pulses. She planted one boot on the rubber line and pressed until the twitching slowed. Leaf rafts drifted clear of the pedestal, and water in the birdbath sank just below the brim, leaving the plastic flamingo floating on its side like a pale boat. The redirected flow found a gap between paving stones, gurgled once, and the leftover trickle curled along the crack toward the street.
Translation
