When the Latte Moved the Line-

English Original
The ceiling fans were spinning quickly, but the paper queue numbers on the reception desk lay stubbornly flat. Beneath their amber glow, Hugo joined the line for the pharmacy window, rubbing his thumbs along a considerable stack of half-filled forms. A cloth sling shaped like a tiny hammock cradled return pens beside the clipboards; its faded threads hinted at a patient artisan who had once woven it. Nearby, two visitors spoke in low voices, haggling over parking tokens rather than medicine prices. Between their shoes lingered a smell of disinfectant mixed with warm caramel notes from a vending-machine latte.
Hugo stepped aside to finish the insurance section, and the latte cup on the armrest behind him tilted. Honey-colored liquid slipped out, rolled off the plastic chair, and splashed onto the linoleum. The thin sheet spread outward, met the heel of a passing courier, and redirected toward the form-filling table. Ink from a dropped pen bled into the moving puddle, swirling rust tones across the pale floor. His own numbered ticket had been printed on lightweight paper; the flow nudged it, then carried the rectangle under the next row of chairs, where it caught against the woven hammock of pens and paused.
A nurse pushed the mop bucket from the hallway, its soapy water sloshing in soft golden arcs. She lowered the mop head, forming a gentle barrier that blocked the runaway latte and thinned the current. Hugo bent, one knee on warm linoleum, trying to rescue his soaked ticket before the queue advanced again. A thin stream of latte was still sliding around the mop fibers toward the doorway.
Translation
