A small grey squirrel leaped onto a low picnic bench.

Soft morning light filled the empty garden.

The bench held an open jar with bright seeds.

Beside it sat a smooth plate and a wooden bowl.

The squirrel stretched its neck toward the shiny food.

A light breeze slid over the bench and touched its fur.

Its tail flicked while its front paws tapped the jar.

The glass shifted and rolled after the gentle tap.

It bumped the plate, and three seeds bounced away.

One seed fell onto the grass near an ant trail.

Ants swarmed the seed and rushed back under the bench.

Their quick march shook the plate a second time.

The plate slid forward and nudged the empty bowl.

The bowl tipped, rang, and stopped the rolling jar.

That dull ring froze the squirrel; its body hugged the wood.

A line of ants carried seed crumbs across the bright grass.
