The cool laminate edge of the meeting-room table pressed into Zane’s forearm as he unrolled the wide blueprint for the rooftop garden. Today’s milestone review sat only twenty minutes away. The oval table already carried colored markers, cables, and the office cat curled beside the warm laptop fan. The top left corner had already been pinned flat by a single round magnet, a routine step in his morning ritual. The sheet still curved outward, so he added a second magnet on the right, feeling the extra pull tighten the paper. Wanting the middle to stay flat, he pressed a third magnet halfway down the board. He trusted the trio would collaborate and hold the long sheet perfectly.

The centre magnet bulged the lightweight board instead, raising a small ridge across the printed paths. Zane drummed two fingers over the uneven spot, and the quick vibration unsettled a moth hiding behind the projector screen. The insect zigzagged under the fluorescent panels like loose confetti in an air vent. Muscles along the cat’s back tightened, and a springy leap sent its body sliding across the polished table after the drifting speck. One hind paw struck a bundle of markers, and the tubes rolled across the table edge. They bumped Zane’s coffee mug, and the mug rocked against the board’s frame. Slanted pressure pulled the magnets sideways, and the carefully plotted call to action now folded like a short accordion. Marker caps scattered toward the corridor while the moth hovered, apparently untroubled by the chain it had begun.

Zane caught the mug before any liquid escaped, then faced the rippling paper. He had poured energy into holding the sheet, yet the surplus grip created the wave. With a single decisive motion, he lifted the middle magnet free. Freed of extra tension, the blueprint settled against the board, gravity doing the quiet work he had ignored. The cat crouched beside a marker, its tail twitching, as the moth slipped into the narrow vent above the screen. An automatic timer had already dimmed the projector lamp, leaving the wall calm again. The blueprint that had bunched minutes earlier now swayed gently at its lower edge each time the air unit cycled.

然而，中間那顆磁鐵反而把輕薄白板頂出一道凸痕。札恩用兩根手指敲在不平之處，快速的震動驚動了躲在投影幕後的飛蛾。小昆蟲在螢光燈下之間之字飛舞，如同氣孔中散落的紙片。辦公室貓背部肌肉繃緊，一躍滑過拋光桌面，追向漂浮的小點。一隻後腳踢到一束彩色筆，筆筒沿桌邊滾動，撞上札恩的咖啡杯，杯子又搖向白板框。受斜向推力影響，磁鐵整排偏移，精心設計的行動號召摺得像手風琴。筆蓋滾向走廊，飛蛾依舊盤旋，似乎毫不在意自已引發的連鎖反應。

札恩在任何液體溢出前接住杯子，然後看向起伏的紙面。他投入大量心力固定圖紙，卻是過剩的拉力造成這道波浪。他乾脆俐落地把中間那顆磁鐵拔下。額外張力解除後，藍圖貼回白板，重力悄悄完成他忽視的工作。貓在一支彩色筆旁蹲伏，尾巴微動，飛蛾則鑽進投影幕上方狹縫。自動計時器已調暗投影燈，牆面再度平靜。幾分鐘前仍起皺的藍圖下緣，如今隨空調循環輕輕搖晃。
