Skin of Wax, Moment of Flow-

English Original
The space beneath the second dowel stood empty, a faint wax outline marking where something had hung moments earlier. Eli bent low, scanning the dim floor until a half-formed candle glimmered under the bench beside a fallen cloth. He hooked the wooden handle with two fingers and lifted; a glossy shell of red wax slid downward, then stalled halfway, leaving a thick uneven ring near the tip. Hoping for a cleaner coat, he dipped once more into the nearest pot, yet the cooler wax gripped the surface like syrup, bulged outward, and a bright drip broke free, rolling across the warming shelf toward the rack’s shadowed edge.
Eli propped the sticky candle on a spare tray and moved to the colour planning board instead. He let droplets from each pot harden on its laminated framework, comparing their solid shades as a sibling held up a postcard that showed a striped yacht slicing through foam. A breeze crossed the room; lamp glare flickered on the cooling rack while small wax domes hardened beside scattered scissors. He trimmed spare wicks, clipped tiny lead weights to their ends, and slid them into neat rows, noting the slight depreciation of the older cotton whose fibres had yellowed with time. Finally, he pushed aside a stray present-wrap ribbon someone had left near the cutting station and rinsed a metal spatula in warm water, leaving the troubled candle forgotten on its tray.
When he returned to mount the cleaned spatula on the rack, the tray tilted; the candle rolled forward and landed in his palm. Without pausing, Eli lowered it into the centre pot where a thin skin had been formed across the darker wax. The skin burst, sending a quiet wave that over-topped the rim, spilled along the shelf, and dribbled toward the floor. He lifted the candle in one smooth pull; excess wax streamed off before it could thicken, and the previous bulge evened out. A folded cloth wedged beneath the shelf caught the advancing thread of liquid, while above, a final droplet slid along the handle’s underside toward the tray’s lip.
Translation
