The stick beside the axle wobbled in brisker arcs, and the axle squeak faded beneath steady clapping. Field noise intruded when a thin breeze rattled the dry grass by the tool rack, then passed. Suki checked her rod, now wet two lines lower than before. Marco eyed the faster shadow sweeping the stones; Suki tapped the wetter notch with her fingertip.
