Zelma kneels on the bank.
A young hare jerks its foot.
Two pebbles press the paw.
The hare’s ears flatten low.
Zelma slides her hand forward.
The first tug is weak.
The pebbles stay stuck tight.
She spots a forked stick.
The grown-up watches across water.
The grown-up values the stream width.
Sunlight dances; soft light glints.
The air is cool.
Zelma uses the forked stick.
She levers the top stone.
The stone tilts with a click.
The hare hops free at once.
A pair of pebbles slide down.
Zelma and hare share the rock.
A small splash rings out.
