Everett shifts, grass brushes his knee.

He walks to the gate gap.

Cool air drifts from the gap.

He lowers his head and watches.

A puddle sits beyond, and ripples expand outward.

A leaf spins; the shining rings widen.

From the step, Astrid says, "I draw leaves."

Leaves twitch.

Everett laughs, rain smell drifts near.

A red ladybug freckles the gate post.
