Plip from the roof edge taps Felix's nose.
He sits on the dry wooden step in the small yard.
Wet earth smells rich.
He stays still.
A small basket rests on his knees.
Inside, a metal camp cup sits.
A sealed jar of salt sits beside it.
A light scrape from the doorway hums through the step.
The cup slides a little and taps his thumb.
He watches the big puddle.
A red leaf spins on the smooth surface.
Soft air lifts the toy rabbit on top.
Its fur brushes his wrist.
Drip, drip from the roof edge rings on the water.
At the scrape, a small pebble drops from the muddy boot.
It plops, then ticks on the stone below.
A tiny splash dots his lashes.
He blinks twice, quick and neat.
Round rings fade across the puddle.
The leaf turns again in the light.
A water strider skates under the gate.
