Quacking drifts over the pond. Wade stands by the low railing. He peers through a narrow space. Bright sun flashes on the water. The glare hides the small fish. Leaves rustle behind him. Birds flap. Wade steps to a dry hedge. A gap opens in the green. He kneels and looks through. A crow hops on the sand beyond. Wind flips a white paper near its toes. Flapping paper startles the bird. The crow beats wings and caws. A single clap bursts from the far bench. Wade blinks. The child's red ball rolls into light. The other child says, “Found it!” Wade stands and dusts knees. He turns toward the path. The crow lifts off and vanishes behind leaves. Wade strolls toward the fountain.
