The Oak Spacer That Made the Honey Frame Leak-

English Original
A thin streak of sticky gold lay across the frame examination table where the wooden tasting spoon normally rested. Tatiana slid a gloved finger along the rough smear, then searched the tabletop and confirmed the spoon’s hook stood empty. Joelle waited nearby with her sketch pad open, so Tatiana lifted a full honey frame from its brood-temperature sleeve; the wax comb felt soft at the edges and its weight tugged downward like a slow bucket of syrup. To stop the tilt, she nudged a small propolis chip under the lower bar, the resin tacky and warm-to-touch. The beam steadied for a moment and Joelle began sketching.
A minute later the frame leaned again, thick nectar creeping toward the uncapped cells. Tatiana knotted a cotton lifeline around the top bar and tied it to a side rail, but the cord sagged and the frame still rocked. "Hold on," Joelle murmured. Wanting firmer support, Tatiana fetched an artisan oak spacer—smooth as polished shell—and jammed it beside the propolis chip. Now three objects pressed against the wood, making an uneven ridge; honey seeped faster, and the first golden drop slid exactly over the earlier streak. The trace on the table no longer looked like a careless spill; it revealed that too many wedges lifted the right side higher than the left, turning the frame into a leaking vessel. The more she added, the worse the imbalance solidified.
Tatiana inhaled the faint pine-sweet air through her veil, then took a brief step back. She pinched the oak spacer, lifted it clear, and set it aside. With that single piece gone, the frame settled flush against the rail, the remaining propolis chip and cord balancing the load without strain. Viscous honey stopped travelling, and Joelle’s pencil worked over the pristine hexagons in quick strokes. A cool wisp from the smoker drifted past, carrying a campfire scent that hovered above the open box. Tatiana pressed the frame back onto the stand rail.
Translation
