Renn slid a fresh green cord through the pulley while Katia steadied the sack from below. The cord stretched, showing its quality spring, yet the sack still sagged halfway. Renn leaned over the rail to lend a hand by gripping the lower knot. Their shared pull drew the sack upward, but when Katia hooked the cord onto a wooden peg, the tightened line released a short rebound. The jerk shot a pear onto the planks, and the water bottle rolled free.

The bottle bounced once against the elastic hammock, skimmed along the rail, and stopped near a corner post. Renn hurried to grab it; cool droplets clung to its side, a clear sign it could help them keep hydrated during the long afternoon. Katia’s shoulders shook with a quick laugh as she settled the blanket across the floorboards.
