English Original
Juno stepped through the studio door, the hinge giving a small protest as cool bench air met her sun-warmed sleeves.
On the long wooden bench by the south window, the exposure glass lay above a light-tight folder, its center marked by a clouded oval.
Ambient brightness pooled across the grain, catching dust that had settled into faint rings and a hairline scratch where years had nicked the edge.
She eased a lemon-green sheet out; the coating felt smooth over toothy paper, and a miniature fern, lace, and a seed head waited in a shallow tray.
She set the miniature fern, a strip of lace, and a seed head face-down, tilting each for space while one stubborn frond tried to spring up.
Her calf pressed the bench leg when she lowered the heavier-than-it-looks glass, her wrists recording its cool settle as the layout held.
Carrying the frame to the doorway, she crossed the sharp line where cool room air gave way to heat shimmering up from the sunlit stone.
In that light, the lemon-green leaned olive at the edges, and by the eighth minute the ground ran toward grey-blue beneath the contact.
Kay said, "Good sun today," and Juno angled the frame so the window’s reflected strip stayed off the glass.
A faint breeze ruffled nothing under the sealed glass, but it stippled the sweat on her knuckles into colder dots.
The clouded oval on the glass showed more plainly outside, so she slid a corner up and touched it with a cloth, then paused mid-circle.
A milk-glass crescent remained where she had started rubbing; she folded the cloth and left the rest, a small private halt in the day’s tidy work.
She settled the corner again and kept the frame where the sun could work.
Back at the bench, the glass lifted with a soft exhale of pressure, and each object came away, leaving lemon-green silhouettes on a dull ground.
She slipped the sheet into cool water; the unexposed yellow slid off in streaming clouds, translating those shadows to white while the blue locked firm.
At the tray’s corner, the rinse turned pale green for a moment, then cleared as the pigment stayed put.
Near the center, a pale ring slowly printed itself, echoing the oval as a soft margin like breath on a window.
She lifted the wetter, heavier sheet, the faint iron smell reaching her nose as droplets stitched a brief line down to the tray.
Kay said, "Line’s clear," and the print sagged once from its clips before settling, the blue already deepening a shade as room air moved.
Her gaze returned to the glass on the bench; along one corner, the hairline scratch caught light like a silver thread she had missed before.
Juno set the glass into its wooden cradle, and her fingertips traced the cool rim.

Juno
