English Original
Keira stood in a clear patch of the living room with her arm raised.
Irving sat on the sofa within reach, his book resting on the arm.
His knees pointed away from the path, and the space between stayed open.
The rug felt warm through her socks, and a slow clock ticked near the shelf.
A square of glare from the window lay across the wood by the hallway.
She sent the narrow-nosed plane forward along the open path above the rug.
It dipped early and tapped the floor near a wall socket and stopped.
Cool wood met her fingertips when she bent to lift the nose.
She pressed the wings wider with her thumbs; the paper felt smooth and cool.
The second throw began higher and floated longer, with a soft hush of paper.
Its landing spot farther from the sofa verified the change in the wide wings.
She noticed a tiny raised line near the left wing, a quiet tipoff to a turn.
On the next try, the plane curved left and slid low beside Irving’s elbow.
The nose slipped into his loose shirt cuff and stayed there like a cloth pocket.
The fabric gave a small hold on the nose, and her fingers met a light pull.
The cuff brushed her knuckles with a dry scrape as she lifted the nose.
A faint ridge now marked the wing, so she set it down and reached for new paper.
She drew a fresh sheet close; her thumbs pressed and creased.
Translation
Keira
Irving
