Elena rolled a flat wooden cart along the harbor street. A large sheet, fixed with clips, carried her chalk drawing of a soaring seagull. She has spent three evenings shading the wings. A thin layer of clear spray has offered preservation against smudges. The sheet was almost twice her height, and its weight pressed on one small axle. The school art show starts at noon, so she wants the picture inside before sea mist rises. Friction grew where the cart’s small wheels met cracked stone. A line of market stalls narrowed the passage. Ahead, road workers placed cones and noisy machines. A short negotiation about hallway space with the janitor had already finished that morning. Reaching the door now looked harder than planning it.

An unusual gust rushed between the stalls and lifted one edge of the sheet. Elena caught the corner, but the sudden movement startled a real seagull nearby. The bird swooped down, landed on the cart, and balanced on the wooden frame. Children lingering beside a sweets stand pointed, laughed, and stepped sideways behind the bird. Their shifting bodies opened a clear lane that the cones had not blocked. Elena guided the cart forward, keeping one hand near the drawing. The bird rode like a calm passenger. At the open side door, the seagull hopped away, and the picture slid safely into the cool hallway.
