Milo by the Pond at Noon-

English 原文
Milo reached the new riverside park just as the clock near the footbridge chimed noon. Across the lawn a compact settlement of food stalls clattered with ladles and cutlery, their steam mixing with the early-summer warmth. Optimism floated among the lunchtime chatter, carried by clinks of lemonade bottles and drifting guitar notes from a busker. Milo began to unfold a narrow canvas stool and placed it by the pond, then unrolled his small watercolor kit and opened a thick sketchbook. Beneath the glossy surface, orange and white koi traced slow spirals, their scales flashing whenever sunlight slipped between leaves. He planned to capture that brief shine on paper before the crowd thickened. A mild breeze skimmed the water, already stroking the top page of his book as if testing its weight.
He pressed a forearm against the paper, yet the breeze strengthened; pages fluttered, then snapped shut with a loud clap. With a quick breath he unfolded the sketchbook again, anchoring one corner under the metal tin of paint. The air smelled of cut grass, a tangible reminder that the park still lay half-finished beyond the trimmed paths. Milo dipped his brush, but just then a sudden gust flipped a loose cup from a nearby stall; it rolled toward the pond, scattering breadcrumbs that speckled the water. Several koi burst upward, mistaking the crumbs for feed. One broad-backed fish cleared the surface, its tail slapping down in a playful arc that sent droplets flying. A sheet of spray landed across Milo’s half-drawn lines, smearing orange pigment into unplanned streaks.
Milo’s eyes widened; his hand hovered, surprised by the accidental swirl that now resembled a cloud around the fish’s painted silhouette. He waited, watching the color spread until it settled into delicate gradients. Around him, conversations paused, then soft laughter acknowledged the coincidence before streams of footsteps resumed. He leaned closer and traced darker edges along the wet stain, turning the mishap into depth and motion. When the wind eased, floating seeds gathered on the pond like tiny sails, and the startled koi drifted back under the lily pads. Milo added a final wash to suggest the seeds, then laid the brush across the tin, satisfied that the page no longer fought the air. Ripples from the koi pond widened and rested against the stone edge.
