English 原文
Milo arrived at the edge of Willow Pond just after sunrise, a camera swinging against his hip. He had spent the previous month chasing one perfect photograph of the iridescent dragonfly that visited the reeds. The once wide surface had been narrowed by weeks of drought, and mud now cracked where water formerly rippled. That shrinking mirror fooled his depth perception, so several early frames showed only blurred shadows and bending reflections. As he knelt closer, scarcity of shade warmed the plastic body of the camera, and the viewfinder briefly clouded.
The insect skimmed past again, but the shutter hesitated when grit from the dry wind slipped beneath the button. If he had carried a tripod, the shot would have been steadier during that unexpected pause. He wished he had tested the mechanism the night before, yet his hands moved quickly, flicking away the stubborn grain. He shifted left for a lower angle, yet glare burst from the bare clay, painting his screen with pale streaks. A cloud drifted over, softening the light, and he raised the camera once more, only to watch the insect vanish.
A faint hum rose behind him; another dragonfly hovered near a fallen branch where puddles once collected every spring. While stepping back to frame both reeds and branch, his boot cracked a thin crust of dried clay. A hidden trickle seeped into the hollow and spread across the mottled surface like spilled silver. The shine of fresh water gathered, and the dragonfly settled on a damp reed as if on a newly polished stage. One balanced breath later, the shutter clicked; the resulting photograph would prove invaluable for the school’s science poster. The captured image rested on the camera screen, bright against the pale reeds.
