Jonah Before the Storm Door-

English 原文
Jonah pulled the last cardboard box toward the door as late afternoon clouds gathered. Tomorrow his friend would visit, and the fragile model boats inside needed a dry resting place. He had already carried two crates downstairs, yet the basement still lacked space for the heaviest box. A gust lifted a brochure from the porch, its headline about environmental impact flapping against his ankle. Thunder rumbled, so he shrugged into a bright raincoat and hurried toward the side entrance. If he had finished earlier, he would have avoided the incoming storm completely.
A thin stream already trickled down the slope, shining over the concrete like silver threads. Beside the basement door, the drainage grate had been clogged by soggy leaves washed from the gutter. Water pooled against the threshold, and the wooden frame creaked when Jonah tested the handle. He set the box on a bench, rolled his sleeves, and swept at the clump with a broom. The leaves slid aside, yet another wave covered his boots and shoved fresh debris into place. If he had cleared the grate earlier, the flow would have slipped through without argument.
Jonah dragged a wooden plank from the shed and wedged it across the slope. The plank diverted the stream sideways, opening a calm pocket of ground before the door. He knelt, tugged away the last leaves, and muddy water whirled down like coins through a slot. With pressure eased, the lock turned, and he carried the heavy box into the basement. While stacking the crates, a tiny green frog blinked from a model deck under the fluorescent light. The stowaway sprang into a bucket, splashing paint dust and rolling brushes against the wall. Water rested in a shallow curve around the cleared grate.
