Bridge in the Rainforest-

English 原文
The dawn air hung thick above the rainforest canopy, dim light dropping onto a muddy path between hanging vines. Mateo balanced a clipboard against his chest while guiding a squeaking wheelbarrow loaded with buckets of fresh soil toward the field tent. Yesterday’s excavation had produced the samples; shelter mattered before another cloudburst soaked everything. A low drone from cicadas mixed with dripping leaves and a muted growl of thunder beyond the ridge. Each step left a shallow footprint that filled at once with brown water. Green threads of moss clung to the rim, adding weight, yet the path still looked passable. He hunched his shoulders and pushed on.
Rain arrived in a sudden burst. Wind shook the canopy, and heavy drops clattered on the leaves. Mateo rolled onto a narrow board bridge, but halfway across the wheel sank; rotted wood had fractured under the load. The barrow tipped, two buckets slid, and wet soil splashed across the planks. Kneeling, he pulled at the handles, yet mud suction held the wheel fast. Loose moss slid from nearby trunks onto the bridge, turning it slick. He seized the long shovel, wedged its blade beneath the rim, and levered down. Metal rose an inch, slipped, scraped. On the next push the plank cracked wider, the wheel popped free, and a block of soil toppled into the stream below.
Soil and water swirled beneath the bridge, exposing a hollow lined by tangled roots. Mateo braced the barrow against a vine-wrapped post and crouched. A dull gleam shone in the cavity, something solid, neither timber nor pebble. He slid the shovel blade under it, edged it closer, and lifted with both hands. A circular slab appeared, rough on one side, its face etched with worn spirals. Mud slipped away, showing a neat hole bored through the center. Two colleagues jogged up the path, rain sliding off their helmets; they stopped, eyes fixed on the disc. Mateo turned it once more, letting rainfall rinse the pattern. The stone rested in his palm, water beading along its grooves.
