Inside, cardboard boxes created an odd juxtaposition of camping gear beside dusty winter scarves. He dragged the pump free, shook it twice, and decided to give it a shot anyway. The handle moved, yet no air entered, only another flat hiss that echoed like a quiet warning. Next, he carried the wheel to his neighbour’s porch, where an electric compressor had been installed last spring. The small discovery brightened the ordinary repair, like sunlight flashing across a silver spoke. A single line of green ink crossed the image, an accidental tear that had trapped the valve open all morning. Air rushed in once the paper left, and the rubber walls rounded steadily under the restored flow.
