English 原文
Dust hovered over the abandoned conservatory while early light pressed through a tall, weather-stained window. Vines clung to the iron frame, their stems imbued with thin veins of amber where autumn had dried them. Mira crossed the loose floorboards, carrying a sketchbook and a box of pencils. Her goal sat directly ahead: the stained-glass scene of a river cascade that restoration crews would soon remove. Flakes of paint drifted from the ceiling; each flake settled like quiet snow upon her boots.
She unfolded a travel easel and tried to angle the window open for clearer light. The corroded hinge resisted; the glass shuddered but refused to shift. A second, firmer push loosened a clot of rust, and the panel swung wider. Sunbeams spilled inside, scattering ruby, sapphire, and jade shards across the floorboards. The shifting colors gave the hall a fragile mystique; even the faint creak of beams seemed softer under their glow. Mira began to sketch, letting the colored shapes guide her hand across the page.
Midway through a charcoal line, something new surfaced inside the glass. Where sunlight struck at an angle, ghostly graphite marks appeared behind the colored panes. She leaned closer. A nearly invisible draft drawing—perhaps a forgotten artist’s template—lay hidden within the lead seams. The lines formed daring curves, almost visionary in ambition, extending far beyond the river scene displayed on the front. An involuntary gasp escaped her lips; the unexpected layer felt like an unspoken epiphany revealed by time itself, yet her pencil paused only after the discovery, not before.
She reversed several strokes, weaving her fresh sketch around the newly seen design. Outside, a passing cloud dulled the beam, and the secret lines faded back into obscurity, but Mira now carried their memory into her work. The hinge clicked again as the weight of the glass settled into a new resting angle, locking the panel open with minimal sway. Her final graphite arc aligned with the hidden curves, bridging decades across a single sheet. Muted colors rested on the cracked tiles.
