English 原文
Mira stepped onto the wide tidal flat just after dawn. Patches of pale water mirrored the sky, and an aspen grove marked the landward edge with tall white trunks. Near her boots, a shallow pool shimmered like a tiny oasis, its glassy surface broken by darting shrimp. She unfolded a slender tripod, but one leg slid deeper into the soft mud; she shifted her weight and pressed the leg again until it stood.
A few strides away, Felix knelt beside a channel where snails clung to pebbles. The two observers worked without words at first, adjusting positions whenever their shadows crossed each other’s lenses. Wind drew a thin line of ripples toward them; both tripods swayed, and four hands shot out in the same instant to steady the equipment. A quiet nod passed between them, then each returned to tasks—Mira framed a reflection while Felix filled a sample vial.
Later, a dark shape at the far end of the flat caught their attention. It rose above the smooth sand with the bulk of a resting bear. Mira’s stride shortened; her shoulders tensed. Felix halted, angled his body to shield the lens, then lifted a small field scope. Through the glass the form held its posture, unmoving. The two approached slowly, the mud gripping their boots. Twenty metres away, a wave crossed the sun and gold light slid off coarse bark: the creature dissolved into a stranded aspen trunk, twisted by storms and washed here by last night’s tide. A sudden laugh burst from Felix; Mira’s breath rushed out and she stepped closer, fingertips brushing the ridged wood.
They circled the timber, discovering ribs of barnacles along one side and a hollow packed with wet sand. The trunk had travelled far, carrying fragments of another ecosystem into this open plain. Small crabs already inspected the newcomer. Mira shifted her tripod again, careful this time to plant each leg on firmer ground. Felix crouched, releasing the contents of his vial into a second dish to compare salinity. Behind them, the tide began its slow return; foam streamed through shallow gullies and gathered at the base of the driftwood. They backed away, giving water space to work. Ripples met the wood, and two cameras rested side by side on the packed sand.
